Power Paks |
The National Reading Styles Institute uses a revolutionary literacy program developed by Marie Carbo to help students improve their reading comprehension and enjoyment. Power Reading combines high-interest short stories and articles in reproducible format with audio tapes that allow students to
listen to the stories while following along. Repeated listenings quickly help students learn to read better and also enjoy reading more.
I was delighted to be one of a number of authors invited to participate in creating the stories for this exciting series called Power Reading. I've written mysteries, humorous stories, science fiction adventures, sports stories, poems, wacky science articles, fun animal facts, scary supernatural stories, and real-life biographies for different grade levels. Like many of the authors involved in the program, I've received letters from teachers and from students themselves who have had fun using my stories to stretch their reading.
Each Power Reading Pak consists of 20 stories with fun illustrations, story conprehension questions based on state standards, 20 audio tapes, a teacher's guide, and an answer keys. They are available from Primer level through Grade 8. I've written sets of stories for Grades 2, 3, 5, 6, and 8 so far, and I look forward to doing more in the future.
